This season, CAM launches Collective Impact, a new partnership with Creative Reaction Lab (CRXLAB). From March 12 through May 23, a selection of posters by young Black and Latinx designers and artists who participated in CRXLAB’s Artwork for Equity program is on view in the Education Galleries. This annual program, which launched in 2017 in recognition of the United Nation’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, selects up to twenty-five young artists and designers to create original artworks that promote inclusion, equity, liberation, and justice. The selection on view is drawn from the Artwork for Equity 2020 campaign theme “Ancestor’s Vote.” One of the main goals is to raise consciousness around historical and contemporary forms of voter suppression impacting Black and Latinx communities in the United States, while also highlighting resistance movements and achievements in increasing equitable access to voting.
From May 27 through August 15, the galleries will convert into an interactive space for organizing around issues faced by St. Louis communities. Through a youth-led, Equity-Centered Community™ Design process, Co-Creators from CRXLAB will craft a dynamic space that evolves in response to community participation.
Creative Reaction Lab was founded in support of the Uprising in Ferguson. Today, CRXLAB is dedicated to building a youth-led, community-centered movement of a new type of civic leader for racial and health equity, Redesigners for Justice™. CRXLAB’s 2020 Artwork for Equity Campaign was supported by the Arts and Education Council, Regional Arts Commission, and Adobe Inc.
Collective Impact: Artwork for Equity is organized for the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis by Michelle Dezember, Director of Learning and Engagement, and Miriam Ruiz, School and Community Programs Manager, in partnership with Creative Reaction Lab’s Antionette Carroll, Founder, President and CEO, and Tiana Glass, Program Coordinator.
