Andy paints flowers and landscapes of the Northwest as well as fishing scenes, wildlife, rural farms, and the countryside. He also paints in Plein Air, abstract, and works from photos. Andy can capture beautiful light and shadows in his paintings turning a two-dimensional surface into a three-dimensional space, adding quality to his paintings.
Andy Sewell is a full-time painter now living in Viola Idaho, centered in the rolling wheat fields of north Idaho known as the Palouse. He grew up in Ketchum ID, studied at Boise State, University of Hawaii, and earned a BFA from the University of Idaho in graphic design and painting. He has painted and sold his prints and originals for over 30 years and has works in several galleries in the northwest. Andy prints his own work in order to have control over color and sharpness. His work is printed mostly in limited editions on archival paper or canvas of no more than 400 images. He is happy to make custom size prints for you to fit a spot just right. He loves to paint flowers and landscapes of the northwest as well as fishing scenes, wildlife, and rural farm and country scenes.
Andy enjoys the moods that can be created and captured in watercolor. The soft, light, unthreatening feelings which can be expressed through this medium, intrigue and challenge him. He believes when one can truly conquer the watercolor medium and keep it under control, something significant has been accomplished. He desires to paint what would be difficult or next to impossible to capture with a camera, yet possible to visually create in a painting. He strives for an almost photographic reality in places yet at the same time produces an obviously painted image.
Andy strives to paint subjects that are impactful to the viewer in positive, personal, and meaningful ways; perhaps catching a glimpse of nature and freezing it in time to continuously bring delight and pleasure to the viewer. He wants his paintings to cause his viewers to rekindle timeless memories of special places and things experienced in their own lives.
Exhibit Date: February 5 thru March 26, 2023.
