January 12 – November 17, 2019
Winter Exhibitions Reception: Sunday, February 3, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
This exhibition comprises three nebulous formations of interconnected aluminum rings that house multi-sized inverted glass domes. The three assemblies hang suspended from the ceiling so the viewer is enticed to look up as they walk below the installation. The clear glass domes, which have each been textured through sandblasting and glue chipping, refract shifting illuminations of color produced by an interconnected network of LEDs. The added sound element of the exhibition completes the immersive experience.
Born in southeastern New England, Potenza received her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in 2004. Afterwards, she spent two years apprenticing with master glassblowers Jan Erik Ritzman and Sven Åke Carlsson, in Transjö, Sweden, where she learned the traditional approach of Swedish glassblowing and gained an appreciation for the industrial history of glass. Potenza aspires to participate in a contemporary dialog concerning the interdisciplinary potential of art, industry, science, and craft traditions. She received her MFA in 2015, and currently lives and works in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
