The School of Public Affairs at Penn State Harrisburg presents, "Affordable Housing". Dr. Jane Beckett-Camarata and her students from class PADM 594, invite you to this panel discussion.
Cities around the world are struggling to solve growing affordable-housing crises. Across 32 major cities around the world, real home prices on average grew 24% over the past five years, while average real income grew by only 8% over the same period (Knight, 2019). Some cities are experiencing migration pattern changes over the past decade, as jobs and people are migrating back downtown from the suburbs. Some cities are suffering from housing affordability issues because of their own success (Knight, 2019).
Both the public and private sectors are searching for new solutions. The aim of this panel is to identify some specific housing affordability issues and how some cities are addressing those issues. This panel will also discuss the next wave of changes impacting affordable housing and consider some future affordable housing policies to encourage new affordable housing supply.
