Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars featuring Paquito D’Rivera

Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars perform as an ensemble of six to eight musicians, and the program material is based on the music of the ’40s and ’50s. This includes tunes like “A Night In Tunisia,” “Con Alma,” “Groovin’ High,” and many others.

The line-up varies depending on availability, but it usually includes some of the stellar body of musicians who used to work with the legendary trumpet player, plus, some of the best and brightest young up-and-comers of the next generation of jazz. Previous line-ups have included John Lee, Cyrus Chestnut, Lewis Nash, Antonio Hart, and Greg Gisbert. Together, they are working to continue the legacy of both the music and the personality of this great jazz master, who had such a profound impact on 20th century music.

Paquito D’Rivera defies categorization. The winner of 14 Grammy® awards, he is celebrated both for his artistry in Latin jazz and his achievements as a classical composer.

D’Rivera is a founding member of the Orquesta Cubana de Musica Moderna. His numerous recordings include more than 30 solo albums. In 1988, he was a founding member of the United Nation Orchestra, a 15-piece ensemble organized by Gillespie to showcase the fusion of Latin and Caribbean influences with jazz.
