Produced by: Clerical Error Productions
Written by: Kate Duffy Sim
On a remote Irish Island, two priests caring for an “illegitimate” baby find themselves on shaky theological ground and in new and bewildering maternal roles. Can Sean Connery save the day? Cross-gender casting satirizes stereotypes, and the show features a local rap artist. Performed by Clerical Error Productions.
About the Playwright:
Kate Duffy Sim, actor and head writer for Clerical Error Productions, is delighted to be working with Fringe again. She co-authored (with MaryAnne Mathews) and performed in Mother Ireland in 2016 Diva Fest, and (with Clerical Error Productions) The Pope Walks Into A Bar, Father Ned!, one of 2018 Fringe’s top-10 sellers. A remounted production, The Pope Walks Into A Pub, finished a sold out run at the Harlequin Theatre in Columbus, Indiana in January.
Of Irish extraction, Kate focuses her work on the Irish experience, and is inspired by Irish television cult shows like Father Ted and Ballykissangel. She is a purist and will know whether a part calls for a Donegal, Cork, or Belfast accent. She performs Irish music on the bodhran, tin whistle, and mandolin, and sings in the Irish language. Retired from the IUPUI Department of English, Kate is the proud grandmother of Jacob and Emmalyn, and lives in Indianapolis with her patient and supportive husband Charlie. She credits the Indiana Writers Center and Andrew Black for launching her playwriting, Jeff Kirkwood and David Molloy for helping Clerical Error Productions find its footing, and a dedicated cast for bringing the laughs to the stage. Look for her next shows, Walking Wounded, and That’s A Rap, Father Ned, at Fringe 2019.
