Sarah’s husband Frank has died unexpectedly, leaving Sarah badly in debt. Frank’s relatives pressure Sarah to assume a large debt for a proper funeral, and Sarah is torn between honoring his family’s wishes and financial practicality. Family secrets and Frank’s true wishes are revealed, and Sarah develops new strength and resilience.
About the Playwright:
June McCarty Clair holds a master's degree in Music Education from Butler University, and taught vocal music for a number of years. She then turned to theater and studied acting and directing at IRT and CTS. She founded Broad Ripple Playhouse, an intimate theatre in the heart of Broad Ripple Village, and served as its executive director for six years. She has produced, written or directed plays at the Indiana Repertory Theatre Upperstage, American Cabaret Theatre, and Broad Ripple Playhouse. She has acted at various theatres in town, including Civic Theatre, Carmel Community Players, Carmel Theatre Company, and the Repertory Theatre at CTS. A favorite role was Ouiser in Steel Magnolias. at the Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre, which she subsequently directed for The Dramatic Club of Indianapolis.
Clair is a distinguished Lilly Fellow, having received two Lilly Endowment Teacher Creativity Grants, one to launch a musical program at Clay Middle School, and the second to write a musical about the life of Hans Christian Andersen entitled Andersen: A Fairy Tale Life, which premiered in 2011 at the Carmel Center for the performing Arts.
She and her husband John have co-written five musicals, Including Pocahontas: An American Princess which was commissioned by Beef 'n' Boards Dinner Theatre. The Clairs are the managers of Carmel Theatre Company. They live in Carmel, Indiana, and have four children and nine grandchildren
