Leonidas Kavakos displays his art and craft in Beethoven’s towering Violin Concerto, a composition of great emotional scope that unfolds as a sublime exchange between soloist and orchestra. Paavo Järvi also conducts Prokofiev’s Sixth Symphony, whose lyrical and brighter moments sound side by side with deep grief over the tragedy of World War II and the heartbreaking price of victory.
