The Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) is dedicated to presenting stories that convey the richness and diversity of Asian American experiences to the broadest audience possible. For more than 40 years, CAAM has introduced audiences to new voices and communities, advancing our collective understanding of the American experience through programs specifically designed to engage the Asian American community and larger public.

We’re thrilled to present our 39th edition of our festival, which is a hybrid of Drive In experiences, live virtual screenings and events and 80+ films on CAAMFest on-demand.

Schedule:
4:00pm: IN CONVERSATION WITH MARGARET CHO AND KOREATOWN GHOST STORY - 60 mins
Join us as we sit down with CAAMFest 2021 Spotlight honoree, Margaret Cho and talk about her successful career. This free, live virtual program will also include a screening of KOREATOWN GHOST STORY, which Cho produced and stars in. Filmmakers Minsun Park & Teddy Tenenbaum will also join the conversation.

6:00pm: MANZANAR, DIVERTED: WHEN WATER BECOMES DUST - 94 mins

Directed by Ann Kaneko

Celebrated filmmaker Ann Kaneko is back at CAAMFest with her stunning and eye-opening documentary, MANZANAR, DIVERTED: WHEN WATER BECOMES DUST. Many have heard of Manazar, California as a space where Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II. As we visit the city today, Manazar continues to be home to indigenous communities who have serious concerns about the water on their land.

In this poetic documentary, we meet an intergenerational community of women as they fight for their land and their rights. They know that when they can align their diverse groups together, including Native Americans, Japanese Americans and environmentalists, their voice is amplified. Join us as we showcase and celebrate this powerful documentary as our Centerpiece Presentation.
