Please call before attending any community events. It is likely that they will be postponed or canceled as a result of the coronavirus. You can find CDC coronavirus information at cdc.gov/coronavirus; AARP has additional resources at aarp.org/coronavirus.
Caring Friends Cancer Support has been helping cancer patients, their families and friends since 1986.
If you or someone you know has been touched by cancer, remember you are not alone.
Caring Friends meets every Wednesday from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm in the Dolphin Pelican Room (enter through the main entrance at Blake Medical Center), then immediately turn left into the Dolphin/Pelican rooms.
Cancer patients, family members and friends are encouraged to attend. (Active participation is not required; listeners are welcome.)
Physicians and other health professionals will periodically speak to the group on specific cancer treatment issues. A Radiation Oncologist attends regularly to answer general questions.
- To provide emotional and spiritual support through a sharing and caring environment for the cancer patients and their families.
- To increase patient and family awareness of the resources available within the community for cancer patients.
- To offer education as requested by the group about the cancer disease process, effects of treatment, and related issues.
- To promote communication between the cancer patient, their significant others, and health caregivers.
