Schedule of Events

4:00 pm-4:45 pm: Ask Mass General: Healthcare Curiosity Panel

What's it really like to work at Mass General Hospital? Three panelists will answer questions about what a day in their life is like, what drew them to their field, and the kinds of problems they solve and questions they investigate in their job.

Each panelist will briefly introduce themselves and what they do, and then the program will be driven by audience questions, moderated by staff from the Russell Museum at Mass General.
For middle schoolers through adults. The panelists will include a scientist who researches cancer, a doctor who helps people who have diseases affecting their joints or muscles, and a nurse who is also an expert in working with health data.

4:00 pm-4:45 pm: Meet an Engineer: Live from the Marshall Islands!

Did you know that the MIT Lincoln Laboratory conducts research at the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands? The research there spans above and below the ocean, from observations of satellites orbiting Earth to monitoring and working to understand the impacts of climate change on vulnerable reefs.

For this special edition of Meet an Engineer, Dr. Tommy Sebastian, a scientific advisor and mechanical engineer at the Atoll, will zoom in live from the Pacific and share how Lincoln's prototyping-centered approach can be applied to such vastly different domains.

Bring your questions! Meet an Engineer is brought to you by the 2021 Cambridge Science Festival and is hosted by MIT graduate student Fatima Husain. #30daysofscience

11:00 am-11:30 am: Virtual STEAM Story Time: Fun with Shapes

We invite children and their grownups to join us from home for 20-25 minutes of stories and hands-on activities. Caregivers are asked to participate in the program as they will be exploring STEAM with a variety of materials!

11:00 am-12:00 pm: 5G: Why Should I Care?

They say it's ushering in the 4th Industrial Revolution, but what's really changing?
Join an interactive conversation with John Long and Verizon Technologist Sanjay Udani as we look at how 5G is transforming industries across the globe. The event will include a short presentation on 5G and the milestones that led to its launch, a look at some specific 5G-enabled solutions, as well as a live Q&A session.
