11:00am-12:30pm: Molly Pinto Madigan "Finding New Songs in Old Ballads - A Songwriting Workshop"

What is a ballad? And why, as a song form, does it continue to enchant us today? From traditional balladry to 21st-century singer/songwriters, Molly will lead an exploration of this timeless musical form and discuss how to incorporate ballad elements into our own songwriting. With writing prompts and listening examples, this interactive workshop will have participants flexing their newfound ballad-writing skills, with the option to share their work with the group at the end. Winner of the Boston Folk Festival’s Songwriting Contest and recipient of Passim's prestigious Iguana Music Fund Grant, Molly has earned praise for her angelic voice and hauntingly beautiful songwriting. Her newest release, "The Ballad of Tam Lin," is a 25-track folk-rock opera, retelling a traditional Scottish ballad.
