Dr. Broomall will use several figures from his study and follow them across time to relate how the experiences of camp and campaign transformed notions of masculinity and gender identity. He argues the momentous events of the Civil War era are best understood by accessing the stories of individuals. Confederate soldiers came to understand themselves, other men and their families differently because of their military service. The talk will explore how these changes played out in their lives.
The presentation starts at 2:30 PM in the Delaplaine Randall Conference Room at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine and is included with admission, and is FREE for museum members.
