Grab your snow shoes, hiking boots, or cross-country skis and get the family outside to seek out the four wooden reindeer sculptures hidden in Bird Park. See if you can find “Charlie,” “Anna,” “Billy,” and “Birdy” and leave a bell around the neck of the first one you spot! This is a self-guided program and bells can be found by the Bird Park Office (maintenance area, behind white house; park side).

If you’re having trouble finding the reindeer, maps marked with their locations are posted in the information kiosks at the Pleasant Street and Rhoades Ave entrances and at the information kiosk at the southwest corner of Vista Field. The largest parking lot for the park is on Polley Lane.

Wondering how the reindeers got their names? They’re named after the Bird Family. The park was created and endowed by Charles Sumner Bird (“Charlie”) and his wife Anna as a memorial park for their son Francis William, who died in 1918 at age 37 (and he went by “Billy”). “Birdy” represents the many other Bird Family members that have supported the park since it opened in 1925.
