Early 19th century defied the academy rules. At their art captured a feeling or experience rather than achieving an accurate description. The used small brushstrokes, with a thin open composition, influenced by the changing light –think Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro. Sculpture was also influenced by this style—Picasso and Henry Moore are two example. This style was also found in music and literature.
