Discover the history of a key conflict between Jamestown settlers and Native Americans.
About the Event
In December of 1675, a dispute between English colonists and Doeg Native Americans over some hogs would spiral into civil war between English Virginians and several Native American nations and pit the governor, Sir William Berkeley, against a young rebel named Nathaniel Bacon.
From 1676 to 1677, Bacon's Rebellion would set Native American nations against each other, determine the fate of European servants and enslaved Africans, destroy Jamestown, damage trade and benefit a few rogues who played both sides. Hear about the history of this conflict, which would shape the American Revolution, from Mark Summers, public historian for the Jamestown Rediscovery Archaeology Project.
