Veterans, military and family members have a unique opportunity to join this fall hawk watching experience. Each fall, thousands of raptors including hawks, eagles, falcons and vultures migrate down the Appalachian mountain chain to their wintering grounds. One of the greatest wildlife spectacles in North America is the Broad-winged Hawk migration, which peaks in late September. Broad-winged hawks congregate in large groups known as kettles as they migrate to Central and South America.
Join us along the Blue Ridge Parkway as we look for and learn about these amazing raptors. Binoculars are recommended but not required. There will be an optional short hike along the Mountains-to-Sea Trail.
