Join AARP Nevada for a 1920s-style Jitterbug “street-swing” dance class.
About the Event
Join us on the fourth Saturday of every month (except December) for a Jitterbug “street-swing” dance class. If you don’t have a regular dance partner, invite a friend (or two), kids or grandkids to come with you. Individuals who are caring for a loved one are strongly encouraged to attend — remember to take care of yourself! This is a beginner class. All are welcome!
Please wear comfortable clothing, footwear and socks. No heels or open-toed shoes/sandals are permitted. Registration is required as each participant must complete a waiver of liability as part of the registration process prior to participating. Guests are welcome and must register themselves directly to agree to the liability waiver. Please consult your physician before beginning any exercise program.
Did you know exercise can benefit an aging brain? Research suggests it can help improve cognition and delay dementia, increase attention and focus, and reduce depression. But if you’d rather shake your booty than run a marathon, get excited. Dancing offers enormous benefits for your body and brain, including helping to relieve stress, increase social connections and reduce loneliness, according to a report on music from AARP’s Global Council on Brain Health.
Additionally, this class incorporates three of the Six Pillars of Brain Health: Be social, manage stress and ongoing exercise!
