About the Event
In the 1870s, 120 boys from China, most of them barely teenagers, came to Connecticut and other parts of New England to participate in a groundbreaking cultural and educational exchange program, part of an effort by China to modernize its education and industry. The boys boarded ships and trains, leaving everything familiar and carrying the expectations of a nation on their shoulders.
