November is Family Caregiving Month and Military Family Month. As a family caregiver, you may be responsible for managing and administering lots of medication. If you have medications in your home that are no longer needed or expired, AARP Long Island encourages you to dispose of them safely this November.
AARP Long Island is hosting this important event to safely discard unwanted pharmaceuticals during the “Shed-and-Shred” event. Shed The Meds and Shred The Paper. Drive Up – Drop Off – Drive Away!
Regarding meds disposal:
Accepted items: YES prescriptions, prescription medications, sample medications and pet medications
Drop off instructions: Keep all medications in original containers, block out name for anonymity, do not cross out medication information
We cannot accept: NO Needles, sharps, syringes, aerosol cans, liquid medications, thermometers, hydrogen peroxide, inhalers, liquids, creams, lotions, biohazardous waste and medications from businesses.
Regarding paper shredding:
You may bring up to three bags/boxes of paper to shred per vehicle.
Metal, plastic, and other materials will not be accepted.
Shredding truck will stay on-site for the time scheduled or until it reaches capacity.
