Con artists are increasingly using cryptocurrency to take money from victims. And scammers are using cryptocurrency kiosks to drain the savings of Washington residents—especially older adults. Because cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible, recovering stolen funds is nearly impossible. The losses are staggering. In 2024, the FBI received 10,956 complaints involving crypto kiosks, totaling $246.7 million, and 85% of those losses were suffered by adults aged 60 and older.
We’ll talk about crypto and how you can avoid these scams. Washington has about 500 crypto kiosks, yet they lack basic protections found in traditional financial services. You can get involved in the fight against crypto fraud and we’ll tell you how.
