If you want to gently and gradually increase flexibility or introduce greater mobility in your daily life as well as more strength this is a great place to start. These sessions are designed for people of varied abilities and is performed in part using a chair. Some standing poses are incorporated with modifications if necessary. This class is unique in that it in part it takes vinyasa-inspired sequences and adapts them to a standing chair assisted practice. Ground poses are offered for those who can get on the floor but with chair-based alternatives for those who cannot. We use hand weights in a few poses to build strength. As always, be aware of your limitations and modify if needed. Finally, mindfulness, meditation and breathing (pranayama) are integral to the practice. It is helpful to have a folding chair or a chair without arms for this session. If you have one or two 4“ x 6“ x 9“ inch yoga blocks, do keep them handy as well as a rolled up bath towel or a yoga blanket. In addition, a 8’ or 10’ yoga strap with a D-buckle is recommended, a Thera band as well as two hand weights (or no weights or two 16 oz soup cans). Please consult your physician before beginning any exercise program. The class is delivered virtually via the Zoom platform and is free for AARP members and guests. Each participant must complete this pre-registration and waiver prior to joining the yoga sessions. Registration for this event grants access to ALL yoga classes for the month. If you would like to invite a guest to this event, they will need to register themselves directly to agree to the liability waiver.
