About the Event
You will go on a guided tour of the historic Allen House, and spend time in the Ethan Allen Homestead Museum viewing exhibits and watching a 15-minute film on Ethan Allen. Light refreshments will be offered in the Museum.
Tour: The historic Allen House (c.1785), part of the Ethan Allen Homestead Museum in the Ethan Allen Homestead Park. This is the oldest still-standing building in the city of Burlington. The tour will interpret the earliest years of the building through its 1980s restoration, including what we know, what we think we know, and what we still would like to find out. This tour will be led by Angie Grove, the Executive Director of the Ethan Allen Homestead Museum.
Museum & Film: The Ethan Allen Homestead Museum’s main exhibition hall currently features "Abenaki: Vermont's First People", an exhibit curated by Alnôbaiwi, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to preserving Vermont Abenaki cultural heritage. Permanent exhibits include "The Life of Ethan Allen", "The Green Mountain Boys", "Rebels, Rioters, & Paper Towns", "18th-century games & toys", "18th-century clothing", "18th-century Taverns", "The Legacy of Ethan Allen", "Historic Lighting", "The Allen Farm", "People who lived at the Ethan Allen Homestead, 1780s-1980s", and "Archaeology at the Homestead". The "Ethan Allen: His Life & Times" film is a 15-minute documentary about Ethan Allen's contributions to Vermont and American history.
