Join us for AARP HomeFit: A Guide TO CREATING A SAFE & COMFORTABLE “LIFELONG HOME” (Part 1 of 2).  HomeFit has been created to help older adults and  remain independent and living in the comfort of their homes, for as long as possible.

Most houses and apartments are designed for young, able-bodied adults and don’t meet the needs of older residents or people with disabilities. In fact, in many parts of the United States, most housing units were built more than a generation ago to serve a population of family households, generally consisting of two parents and at least two children.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize at least 3 key areas in which a home can be modified to support changing needs and lifestyle at any age
  • Identify at least 5 low-cost modifications or updates for making a home safe, and which can easily be performed by a “handy” friend or family member
  • Distinguish between modifications that are “do-it-yourself” (DIY) or that are best left to a professional
