Learn ways to reduce the risk of falling by making your home safe and livable for all and practicing chair yoga!
About the Event:
Join AARP California for a free workshop during Falls Prevention Awareness Week, a nationwide observance to raise awareness on preventing falls, reducing the risk of falls, and helping older adults live without fear of falling.
This special workshop will feature:
- HomeFit curriculum: AARP surveys consistently find that older adults want to remain in their current homes and communities for as long as possible. AARP’s free HomeFit Guide features smart ways to make a home comfortable, safe and a great fit for people of all ages. This presentation can help individuals and families make their current or future residence–or that of a loved one–their “lifelong home."
- Have-A-Seat Yoga: a gentle yoga program that incorporates all the benefits that a traditional mat yoga class provides but is done from the stability and comfort of a chair. Feel stress release and invigoration while increasing flexibility, balance and muscle strength. Meditation, breathwork and aromatherapy are also combined to provide an “all body experience” connecting the mind, body and spirit. The class is led by Kelly Wislar, a certified 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher, who developed her proprietary program seven years ago. Her book “Have-A-Seat Yoga; Inspiration to Get Started, Stay Connected and Keep Going” encourages anyone, regardless of physical mobility or limitations, to take up the practice of chair yoga.
