AARP Rhode Island is pleased to sponsor the Rhode Island Black Storytellers (RIBS) FUNDA FEST 27: A Celebration of Black Storytelling. The 27th annual signature event will take place January 17 - January 26, 2025.
“Funda” means “to read and to learn” in Zulu and KiSwahili, two languages spoken on the African continent. For the past two decades, Rhode Island Black Storytellers (RIBS) – along with national, regional and international storytellers – have brought diverse Black voices to all of Rhode Island through live performances and workshops in schools and public venues reaching approximately 6000 people each year.
Funda Fest will showcase over 25 artists (storytellers, poets, musicians) from around the globe including: the US, Jamaica, the UK, the Caribbean, and the African Continent. It will broadcast live performances to a global audience of 8,000+ and bring live storytelling to schools and public venues across RI and nearby Southern New England.
