Join AARP Oregon for our third bookclub meeting of 2022 on Tuesday June 14th. We will be reading

The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich

The novel, set in the 1950s, is inspired by the life of Erdrich's grandfather who motivated other members of the Turtle Mountain Reservation to resist the Indian Termination policies of the 1940s-1960s. It’s historical, rich with culture and detail. Erdrich engages the reader with characters: people, ghosts and animals. Her writing juxtaposes the language of the government and the language of the people of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa or Ojibwe (or Anishinaabe) Indians. Erdrich’s writing chronicles hope by carving Indian lives, histories and stories into our national literature. The Night Watchman was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2021.
