As we age, an active lifestyle combined with regular exercise leads to better brain function and overall wellness. Join AARP Oregon for an hour-long adaptive and gentle chair yoga virtual class every Wednesday and Saturday at 10am. Please note, registration for this event will give you access to ALL yoga classes offered in the month of November.

If you want to gently and gradually increase flexibility or introduce greater mobility in your daily life as well as more strength this is a great place to start. These sessions are designed for people of varied abilities and is performed in part using a chair. Some standing is incorporated with modifications if necessary. We also offer a few ground poses for those who can get on the floor but with chair-based alternatives for those who cannot. As always, be aware of your limitations and modify if needed. Finally, mindfulness and breathing (pranayama) are integral to the practice.

It is helpful to have a folding chair or a chair without arms for this session. If you have one or two 4“ x 6“ x 9“ inch yoga blocks, do keep them handy or a rolled bath towel or a yoga blanket will also do. In addition, a 8’ or 10’ yoga strap with a D-buckle is recommended.
Please consult your physician before beginning any exercise program.

The class is delivered virtually via the Zoom platform and is free for AARP members and guests. Each participant must complete this pre-registration and waiver prior to joining the yoga sessions. Registration for this event grants access to ALL yoga classes for the month.  If you would like to invite a guest to this event, they will need to register themselves directly to agree to the liability waiver.
