Veterans, military and family members have a unique opportunity to join this fall hawk watching experience. Each fall, thousands of raptors including hawks, eagles, falcons and vultures migrate down the Appalachian mountain chain to their wintering grounds. One of the greatest wildlife spectacles in North America is the Broad-winged Hawk migration, which peaks in late September. Broad-winged hawks congregate in large groups known as kettles as they migrate to Central and South America.
Join us along the Blue Ridge Parkway as we look for and learn about these amazing raptors. Binoculars are recommended but not required. We encourage participants to bring a chair, sunscreen, water, sunglasses and anything else that helps you feel comfortable to enjoy the experience. There will be an optional short hike along the Mountains-to-Sea Trail.
The rain date for this event will be on Thursday, September 26. Please check your email the day of the event for any updates.
