Scammers and identity thieves will stop at nothing to steal personal information and money from their victims - even digging through trash. That's why shredding your documents with sensitive information is a recommended practice.
Join AARP and the Better Business Bureau for an opportunity to have up to two boxes of household papers securely shredded at the Ability Building Community (ABC) warehouse in Rochester on May 22 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Please help us provide a positive experience for everyone by following these instructions:
- Choose a time slot as your complete the registration (10:00, 11:00 or noon). There's no advantage to arriving early, and in fact the longest wait times will likely be at the beginning of each hour.
- Load your materials in one or two boxes per vehicle that an average person can lift - about 40 lbs.
- Remove all clips and staples, plastic covers and any bound books from the boxes - these may not be shredded and could damage the machines.
- When you arrive, enter the parking lot or queue by approaching on Valleyhigh Drive NW headed SOUTH, turn right onto 14th Street NW, and then immediately right into the warehouse parking lot. Follow the signs and drive in front of the building to the southwest corner where your materials will be unloaded.
- Your materials will be continuously supervised until they are destroyed inside the building. If you would like to observe, please park and speak with the workers for instructions.
Ability Building Community provides day time supports to a very diverse group of individuals with disabilities that enjoy living, working and recreating in their community. The supports ABC provides allows all individuals served to have those opportunities, just as anyone else would have. (And, ABC happens to own an industrial shredder, so we are glad to collaborate and support them with this event!)
