This session is intended to equip participants on behalf of themselves, their families and their communities with a basic understanding of dementia and brain health. It offers Michigan-specific resource information and describes specific steps people can take at any age to optimize their chances of maintaining their cognitive heath. Information covered in the session: • Dementia 101 • The Five Pillars of Brain Health • Potential risks to your cognitive health • Resources to empower people to live with joy, meaning and purpose even with dementia The goal of this presentation is: • To provide information and resources that individuals, families and community leaders can use and share to help people who are living with dementia to live their best lives. • To empower participants to improve their own brain health. The target audience for this presentation is: • Anyone who has been touched by dementia in their lives. • Friends and family members caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or another type of dementia. • Older adults interested in optimizing their chance of maintaining their cognitive heath. • People who may encounter persons living with dementia in their community or employment. Course objectives (for CEU purposes): • To describe different types of dementia for a non-medical audience. • To provide Michigan-specific resources participants can use and share to help people who are living with dementia to live their best lives. • To identify specific steps people can take at any age to optimize their chances of maintaining their cognitive heath.
