Kansas City residents ages 50+ are a powerful voting bloc. Making the community an even better place to live, work and play is top of mind as they choose the city's next leader in the upcoming Mayoral election.

A January 2019 survey of Kansas City registered voters 50+ identified key concerns they want candidates to address as they head to the polls for the Mayoral primary election on April 2nd. Here's what we learned:

  • Pedestrian Safety: 92% of voters say creating a Safe Streets Initiative to improve lighting and signs and create safer sidewalks is important to them.
  • Transportation: 94% say maintaining safe and independent mobility for all residents is a great concern.
  • Housing: 72% say housing that is affordable and suitable for older residents is a priority.

Be the difference in Kansas City's future.  Join AARP in Kansas City for a Mayoral candidate forum on March 26, and ask the candidates how they plan to make Kansas City an even better place to live for people of all ages. The event will begin with a candidate meet & greet and complimentary breakfast at 7:30am. The forum will begin promptly at 8:00am and will be moderated by KCTV-5 reporter, Rudy Harper, and Julee Jonez, radio host with KPRS.

Don't forget to vote in the mayoral primary on April 2nd and the general election on June 25.
