In Massachusetts, AARP staff and volunteer advocates are often at the State House advocating on behalf of the 50+, speaking with legislators, and testifying at hearings. Would you like to know a bit more about the hub of political activity in Massachusetts? If so, please join AARP Massachusetts for a tour of the Massachusetts State House.  We will meet for coffee at the AARP Massachusetts office at One Beacon Street just down the block from the State House and then proceed together for our tour.

State House tours are conducted by the staff of the Tours and Government Education Division of the Secretary of the Commonwealth's Office and by volunteers well-versed in the history and architectural background of the State House. Tours last approximately 30-45 minutes and include an overview of the history and architecture of the State Capitol. Visitors can see the House and Senate Chambers, learn about the Ladybug (our state insect) and of the “Sacred Cod.”

The Massachusetts State House, designed by Charles Bulfinch, the leading architect of his time, is a grand repository of history as well as an architectural treasure. With a cornerstone laid by Samuel Adams in 1795, and a dome copper by Paul Revere in 1802, its marble-floored corridors and spacious ceremonial rooms are filled with works of art depicting our state’s unique heritage.
