Sustainable Yards (Creating Sustainable Outdoor Spaces)
May 29, 2-3:30 pm
How can a yard be safe, eco-friendly, and attractive to both people and nature? At Mass Audubon’s Broad Meadow Brook, New England’s largest urban wildlife sanctuary, learn how you can enjoy a healthy yard while supporting birds and pollinators through sustainable landscaping. This class will teach you about some of our local birds and insects and introduce you to sustainable landscaping and gardening practices such as rainwater capture, the benefits of using native plants, and getting your lawn off drugs. An easy stroll around the gardens and grounds will follow an indoor presentation. Come away with ideas for plants and practices to try on your own outdoor space.
Mass Audubon’s Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary and Conservation Center is located minutes from major routes. The Visitor Center is fully accessible. The Butterfly, Bird, and Pollinator Gardens are level or slope gently with paved or hard-packed stone walkways.
