AARP Hawaii Neighbor Talks:

Introduction to Gentle Yoga for Older Adults

Learn yoga basics in the comfort of your own home. These sessions will be offered in a meditative atmosphere and will teach basic yoga poses and adaptations allowing the use of a chair.  Regularly practicing yoga can lead to improved physical strength, balance, flexibility, and protection from injury.  Mental benefits may include relaxation and stress management.  

This FREE 6-part series is designed for older adults and those new to Yoga.  However everyone is welcome!

 Supplies:

  • A chair – for balance or to adapt poses to chair-options for gentle yoga
  • A basic yoga mat (or a beach towel can be placed over carpet)
  • Water – drink water before, during and after the class to stay hydrated
  • A small towel

 

About the Instructor:

Francine Loo has taught Advanced Yoga classes for the City Parks and Recreation Program for 20 years.  For the past three years, she has also taught Chair Yoga classes.  A former educator of special needs students, Francine is skilled at adapting various yoga poses to safely and effectively instruct her students based on their individual physical ability.  She believes that everyone can participate in yoga at their own level.  Francine’s goal is to share the many benefits of yoga while encouraging students to challenge themselves at their own pace.
