AARP Orlando Presents "Unity in the Community" Event in Osceola County,
a Family-Fun Event to Bring Together Diverse Communities
AARP Orlando is thrilled to announce its upcoming event, "Unity in the Community," in partnership with Solid Rock Community Church and Black Empowerment & Community Council (BECC). Scheduled for June 1, 2024 from 11am to 3pm, this event promises to deliver a day of family-friendly fun while highlighting the diverse and vibrant community of Central Florida. This collaboration between AARP Orlando with community organizations aims to underscore AARP's commitment to connection, allyship, and contributions within the greater Orlando area. The event will take place at Solid Rock Community Church located at 1904 Michigan Ave, Kissimmee, FL 34744, and situated in a predominantly Hispanic and Black neighborhood.
"Unity in the Community" is designed to be an outdoor extravaganza, welcoming an estimated 400-500 attendees from diverse backgrounds. The event will feature an array of activities including bounce houses, food trucks, games, vendors, music, salsa dancers, stilt performers, and more. One of the event's highlights is its focus on multicultural engagement, particularly within the Black and Hispanic communities. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about AARP in an interactive and engaging manner, fostering cross-cultural understanding and unity. Local artists, Black and Hispanic businesses, and culinary delights will be showcased, creating a vibrant celebration of diversity.
"We're excited to bring together people from all walks of life to celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures in our community," said Yazmin Alfonso, Associate State Director for AARP. "Through 'Unity in the Community,' we aim to not only spotlight AARP's involvement but also to strengthen bonds and build bridges within our diverse neighborhoods."
The event will also serve as a platform for AARP Orlando to promote volunteerism and highlight its various focus areas. A dedicated booth will offer attendees the chance to learn about volunteer opportunities within AARP, with specific roles that are aligned with the community work and expertise of event attendees. In addition to volunteer recruitment, themed booths will be set up to educate attendees on AARP's advocacy efforts, fraud prevention initiatives, brain health resources, homefit and livable community projects, and more. “We are excited to team up with AARP Orlando for a fantastic day filled with fun, resources, and community spirit right here in Osceola County. This partnership highlights our commitment to bringing the community together and enhancing our collective strength through shared experiences and valuable resources,” shared Tiffany Jeffers, Founder and President of BECC. “This event is a chance for all of us to unite and make meaningful connections. So, come out and join the celebration! Let’s make it a day to remember, together!” she added.
A unique feature of the event is the Community Collaborators Row, featuring booths representing local organizations and leaders. This provides attendees with access to valuable resources while allowing community allies to reach new audiences. "We're grateful for the collaboration with Solid Rock Community Church and all our community collaborators," said Alfonso. "Together, we're making strides towards a more connected and empowered community."
