Maintaining Independence as We Age
Some adults struggle to live independently as the ever-escalating costs of housing and other basic needs in Miami-Dade County threaten to derail the lives they’ve worked so hard for and the retirement they dreamed of enjoying. South Florida’s peninsula caps the amount of available land, so creative solutions are needed to enhance the supply of affordable housing for older adults who want to maintain their freedom while on a fixed income. Can policies and laws be applied to create communities inclusive of appropriate homes for residents across the age and socioeconomic spectrums? (Speakers coming soon)
Older Adults & Congregate Living
Multiple studies have shown that avoiding loneliness and isolation are cornerstones of healthy aging, or to at least slow the aging process. For many older adults, congregate living may strike the perfect balance to help them manage health issues, make friends and stay active, and ensure they consistently eat nutritious meals. But in Miami-Dade County, the demand outweighs the supply for age-friendly, safe, and affordable congregate housing options that enable our residents to remain in their own communities. This need will only increase as today’s population ages. How can residents of Miami-Dade County collectively address this issue for our parents, grandparents, and ourselves? (Speakers coming soon)
Together, let's work towards a more supportive environment for aging in Miami-Dade County.
