The YMCA is the largest non-profit community in America. It is at the heart of community life in neighborhoods and towns across the nation. Best known for health and fitness, the YMCA teaches kids to swim, organizes youth sports and leads adult aerobics. The YMCA also offers hundreds of programs including day camp for kids, child care, exercise for people with disabilities, teen clubs, environmental programs, family nights, and much more.

The Metuchen Branch YMCA opened in October 1921. It was funded by bequest from the estate of Charles S. Edgar, who died in 1914. Mr. Edgar wanted a place where children could congregate, express themselves and grow in an environment of high moral values and safety.

The YMCA movement is about people---all ages, races, religions and incomes. Forever mission-driven, Ys exist to mold the kind of people who care about each other, who are firm in their own sense of worth and that of others, who try to foster understanding and respect, who take responsibility for their own lives and help improve the lives of others.

We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities.
