Protect Your Heart: Join Our Tele-Town Hall on Romance Scams

Posted on 01/19/24 by David Kalinoski

Love is in the air as Valentine's Day approaches, but so are romance scammers, preying on unsuspecting hearts. AARP Pennsylvania is committed to keeping you informed so that you know how to spot and avoid scams.

That's why we invite you to join our February 7, TeleTown Hall so you can learn about the emotional and physical toll of being a romance scam victim, how to protect yourself, and where to find support if you have been targeted by a scam.

In this age of digital connectivity, many people are forming friendships and potential love interests through social media, mobile game apps, and online dating sites. While these platforms can be wonderful ways to meet new people, it's crucial to remember that not everyone online has good intentions. Romance scams are more prevalent than ever, and they target individuals of all backgrounds and ages.

Join us by dialing 855-286-0295 on February 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. ET to gain valuable insights on recognizing and avoiding romance scams.

Our special guest speaker will be AARP Fraud Watch Network Speaker Kate Kleinert, a survivor of an online romance scam who passionately advocates in the fight against fraud. Kate will share her personal experience and will offer valuable advice on how to stay safe when interacting with people online in the digital dating world.

Kate will be joined by our host - AARP Pennsylvania Volunteer and Consumer Issues Task Force Chair – Mary Bach. They will discuss the red flags to watch out for, offer tips on how to avoid online romance scams, and take your questions live.

Joining our TeleTown Hall is easy. On Wednesday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m. ET, dial 855-286-0295 and you’ll be connected.

Alternatively, you can join the Teletown Hall livestream on Facebook @AARPPA at 2:00 p.m. ET. And if you can’t make it live, you can listen on-demand afterward on Facebook @AARPPA.

Knowledge gives you power over scams. Together, we can empower ourselves and our community to safely navigate the online dating landscape. Join us for this informative and engaging tele-town hall and be a part of our commitment to your safety and well-being. Protect your heart, and join us on February 7 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
