Bring New School Supplies to AARP events this Summer for Project S.O.S.

Posted on 06/06/17 by Leah Miller, AARP Blog Author

Though students across the Sioux Empire are setting aside their pencils and books for the summer, one local nonprofit is already preparing for another, quickly approaching school year. Each year, Project S.O.S (Supply Our Students) provides thousands of backpacks free of charge to students in need across our community. AARP SD is supporting this incredible mission by collecting new school supplies and / or donations for Project S.O.S at all of our summer events!

Many families in our community struggle to ensure their children are equipped with the supplies they need for a successful school year.  When students lack basic tools, teachers often must provide additional supplies for their classroom out of their own pocket.  Project S.O.S is program of The Banquet in Sioux Falls that helps to ensure all students and classrooms have the things they need to be a productive learning environment.

Right now, the Banquet is most in need of middle school and high school backpacks, loose leaf paper, spiral notebooks (1 subject, in solid colors), and 1” ring binders.   Click here for a full list of needed supplies.

Take this opportunity to give back and make a difference for the children in our community. Bring your donation with you to any of the following AARP events:

If you aren’t able to attend an AARP event this summer, you can also drop your donations off at the AARP SD offices (5101 S Nevada Ave, Suite 150, Sioux Falls, SD 57108).  We will make sure all donations are delivered to the Banquet!
