With the help of more than 35,000 trained volunteers, AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide program helped secure $1.3 billion in tax refunds for low- and moderate-income members of their communities in 2012. With more than 6,000 Tax-Aide sites across the country, Tax-Aide is one of the most effective volunteer programs in America.
The goal of Life Reimagined is to help turn people’s goals and dreams into real possibilities through online and offline programs, experiences, resources and services that help people adapt to their new life phase and live their best lives. Life Reimagined seeks to help people figure out and pursue their next stage in life, especially around entrepreneurship, re-tooling for a new career, and finding opportunities to connect with peers and mentors as they pursue their goals.
By partnering with NASCAR Cup Champion Jeff Gordon, AARP and AARP Foundation raise money and awareness of the more than 9 million 50-plus Americans who struggle to put food on the table. Through corporate partnerships, individual donations and hundreds of food drives across the country, this initiative has donated more than 20 million meals.
AARP is engaging citizens, planning experts and local governments to push for “age-friendly communities.” By providing affordable and appropriate housing, public transportation and complete streets, these communities enhance personal independence, enable residents to age in their own homes, and foster citizen engagement in civic, economic and social life.
